History

The roots for Hopewell United Methodist Church were planted by Rev. David Jay in 1837. Because of his love of the Hopewell Meeting House and his aspirations for the future, he donated three acres, with a house, to the first trustees of Hopewell and dedicated it to the worship of God.

Little is known about the early years. The Methodist Episcopal Church appointed the first recorded pastor in 1872. More than 80 circuit preachers and pastors have served the church. All have added to the aspirations held by  Rev. Jay.

Numerous expansion programs have occurred since that humble beginning. Today, we have a beautiful six-acre campus which includes the Sanctuary, Sunday School facilities, Fellowship Building, Parsonage, and perpetual care Cemetery that has graves that date back to 1852 and earlier unmarked ones.

As we continue to grow in our Christian faith, we are proud of our heritage and look forward to an exciting future. We invite you to come grow with us!
